Poof MCP server
Remove image and video backgrounds from any AI assistant
Background removal MCP for images and video — transparent PNG/WebP in under 2 seconds, plus transparent WebM/MOV, green-screen MP4 or looping GIF from any clip with audio kept. Hosted at api.poof.bg/mcp (OAuth or API key) or local via npx @poof-bg/mcp.
Poof is a background removal API with an official MCP server, hosted at https://api.poof.bg/mcp (Streamable HTTP) or run locally with npx -y @poof-bg/mcp. Hand your agent an image — PNG, JPEG, WebP or still GIF, by URL or base64 — and it comes back as a transparent PNG or WebP in under 2 seconds, with hair-level edges on people, products, cars and animals. Video works too: remove_video_background takes a clip by URL and returns transparent WebM or MOV, a green-screen MP4, a looping transparent GIF or an alpha matte, up to 4K with the audio kept, as a job you poll with get_job. Sign in with OAuth from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients, or send an API key; images cost 1 credit and video 5 credits per second, from one pool with 100 free credits a month.
Images in under 2 seconds
remove_background returns a clean transparent PNG or WebP from a URL or base64 image — fine hair, fur and busy backgrounds, no manual masking.
Video, sound kept
remove_video_background outputs transparent WebM/MOV, green-screen MP4, looping GIF or an alpha matte, up to 4K; poll get_job for the download link.
Hosted or local
Connect to api.poof.bg/mcp with OAuth or an x-api-key header, or run the MIT-licensed @poof-bg/mcp over stdio. 100 free credits a month; get_account shows the balance.
Who it’s for. E-commerce teams, designers, video editors and app builders who want their agent to cut out product photos, portraits or clips — including teams moving off remove.bg before it shuts down on 1 December 2026.

How to read this: tool names here are observed from a live tools/list handshake. The Risk label is a heuristic inferred from the tool name (write/destructive verbs), not from executing the tool — a conservative guess, not a verified capability. We never escalate risk from a description. Found one that's wrong? Tell us — we fix on report.
